the muscle shortens and changes the angle of the joint

Answer:

Explanation:

Muscles are made of muscle fibres, each of the fibre is made up of two types of filaments, actin and myosin. These filaments are protein filaments. Actin filaments are thin and the myosin filaments are thick. Actin filaments are tied up to structures called Z lines and the distance between two consecutive Z lines is called a sarcomere.

During muscle contraction, the actin filament is pulled along myosin toward the centre of the sarcomere until the actin and myosin filaments are completely overlapped. This results in shortening of the sarcomere.
