The answer is (a) The Church believed that the Earth was at the center of the universe.

Copernicus' ideas were very unpopular and not logical at the time; most of the world believed in religion. As you can probably tell, Copernicus won in the long run. Now we all KNOW that Earth is indeed not the center of the universe.
