John Brown joined the history books here in the USA because of his courageous act in which he along with a group of 21 people (15 whites and 6 blacks) perpetrated in Virgina (South) 150 years ago. On October 16, 1859, he and his followers attacked the federal arsenal of "Harpers Ferry." This attack was part of a grand plan to try to destroy the abominable system of slavery, liberating and also arming the slaves in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. These states defended not only their autonomy before the federal government, but also the right to own slaves. The invaders were captured by the Army led by Robert E.
