D- Political and economic resistance to spread of the Soviet communist influence abroad.
During this period the Marshall plan foreign policy was implemented as an official European recovery programme. It was an American initiative to aid western European countries, the U.S gave out over $13 Billion for economic assistance to help in the rebuilding of the western European economies after the second world war. The plan promoted European economic integration though, the Soviet Union viewed it as an attempt to interfere with internal affairs of other countries. Ultimately, they were able to prevent Poland and Czechoslovakia from participating.
