John Lewis and other civil rights activists constantly fought for the right to vote for African-Americans. This is because the right to vote allows citizens to pick representatives. These representatives are then in charge of making laws for the American public. So, if a person can vote, they have the chance to influence the members of the government.
This right to vote would allow African-Americans to elect individuals with similar views. Along with this, they would be able to vote in someone who would help ensure their equal treatment in American society.
