The Treaty of Versailles was not a good treaty for the future.
The "war guilt" clause forced Germany to accept responsibility for the war and harshly punished the country. They were forced to reduced their military and pay huge sums of money in reparations. This will eventually cause Germany to retaliate under the leadership of Hitler.
The League of Nations was ineffective and unorganized. The US, who had created the idea, refused to join the League. When faced with an aggressive Germany, they proved ineffectual and were not able to do anything to stop the aggression.
Many colonies and smaller allied nations were left resentful as they were not given freedom or land of their own. Japan wanted to gain colonies out of the war and were given nothing. India and Vietnam were hoping to gain freedom from France and Great Britain as a reward for their help and no such luck. This will all create world resentment and create causes for World War II.
