A quick answer is to say that you slow down before you enter the curve and while entering the curve, about 1/4 the way in, you speed up.
If you need a more detailed answer about Kinetic energy, then the real problem is not the KE, it is the centrifical force. F = m v^2/r which had a direction. The faster you are travelling through the curve, the greater the force. The force is pointed away from the center of the curved surface so if the road is slippery you have a chance of leaving the road if you are not careful.
