A specimen of some metal having a rectangular cross section 9.54 mm x 13.9 mm is pulled in tension with a force of 20100 n, which produces only elastic deformation. given that the elastic modulus of this metal is 79 gpa, calculate the resulting strain.

Young modulus E = stress/strain where E is the elastic modulus. We seek to calculate the the strain. But we would have to get the stress first. Tensile stress = Force/Area. Force = 20100N. And the Area = 9.54* 13.9 = 132.606Nm^2. Strain = stress/E.where E = 79. Hence we have 132.606/79 = 1.67
