You can build a nuclear power plant anywhere ... and then deliver truckloads of Uranium to it.

You can build a coal-fired power plant anywhere ... and then build a railroad to it to keep it supplied with coal.

You can build a power plant to run on oil or natural gas anywhere you want it ... and build a pipeline to keep the geyssenowl flowing in.

But we don't have any ways yet to move wind, rivers, sunshine, or geothermal wells from where they are to where we want them. If we want to use them to energize power plants, we pretty much have to build the power plants in the places where the renewable sources of energy already are.

As modern human creatures, we don't like that. We prefer to tell nature how to behave, for our convenience.
