Respuesta :
During the 19th century, there was a thirst for "individual improvement" in the United States. The idea that a society could be completely reorganized and perfected gained traction during this time period. This was the idea that gave rise to utopian communities.
These were originally created for religious purposes, just like the Puritan-era colonies of Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay. Some examples of these utopian communities were the Rappites and the Shakers. These followed many values that were common in Puritan communities, such as simplicity, celibacy, and common labour and reward.
Eventually, the communities came to reflect social improvement rather than religious purity. New communities emphasized the absence of religious dogma, political equality, cooperation, intellectual and moral education and social harmony.
The Sense of community and the sense of sharing workload was the same in both antebellum Era Utopian experiments and colonial-era Puritan settlers but, Utopian societies had more emphasis on harmony while the puritan settlers didn't think that as the main priority.
Further Explanation:-
The reformers of the antebellum era were more inclined towards experiments related to the community as they wanted to create a stable society. These reformers found many expressions that belonged from early socialist experiments to religious utopias which were inspired by Second Great Awakening. The majority of the people from the Antebellum era were inclined to Utopian community and the reason for this inclination was Evangelical Protestantism. If we talk about Puritan New England and Massachusetts bay, The second wave of English puritans established the Massachusetts bay colony along with Rhode Island. Their puritans were not like the separatists as they hoped to serve as a ‘City upon a Hill' which brought reform to the Protestantism throughout the English empire. Many people were belonging to Puritans who escaped England to establish religious freedom and they proved just intolerant as the English state church.
