let's convert them to the same form, i choose a fraction (but percent could also be good)

40 % is equal to [tex] \frac{40}{100} [/tex] (% means "of hundred" and can be also interpreted as "divided by 100"

[tex] \frac{40}{100} = \frac{4}{10}=\frac{2}{5}[/tex]


and [tex] \frac{2}{5}[/tex]  is bigger than [tex] \frac{1}{5}[/tex]


40 % is bigger!
