The Third Estate included approximately ninety-eight percent of the French population under the Old Regime. It was the Bourgeoisie who tops the part of this estate. It was the Bourgeoisie (a social order) who dominated the middle class. The so-called middle class was membered by doctors, lawyers, bankers, merchants and professors. Rural peasants only made up the bulk of the third estate.
