You know your professor is a "stickler" when it comes to spelling and grammar in your papers and you detest this, because you're enrolled in a business course, not an english course. however, you are going to proofread your papers so that you don't lose points on your assignments. which element of your attitude toward your professor does proofreading best describe?

These would be your values. It goes along with the concept of "doing one's best on everything" and making sure that the paper that is submitted is of the highest quality. In addition, since you are aware that the professor has high standards, you are raising your standards to meet theirs.
I would call it a 'necessary evil' since it is something though unpleasant must be done to conform to the standards of the professor and the professor him/herself may realize that it is not the primary consideration in the paper but is required by the institution.
