The above question is from ‘A Soldier for the Crown’ in which the character Alexander Freeman was granted manumission. It is ironic that Freeman considers the deed of manumission to be so precious because she got the pass to be free from slavery under the name Alexander Freeman when in reality she is a woman.
‘A Soldier for the Crown’
The above answer is explained in further detail as given below:
- Alexander Freeman was the name under which she got the pass to be free from slavery when she decided to join the British side in the American Revolution.
- She needs to fight as a man as the pass is in the name of Alexander Freeman and if anyone discovers that she is a woman, her freedom would easily be taken away.
