television, movies, and video games cause violent behavior, or are they a reflection of society’s violence and why?

Because games, books, and movies are not real. They are fantasies made into watchable, readable, or playable material. They allow us to exercise our fantasy while still being well grounded into reality. It’s one of the big advantages of having a brain like ours: we can create a whole world where the most outrageous things happen and thus satisfy our healthy pulsions. I do not need to enlist in a pirate crew, I can watch pirate adventures on TV.

I do not need to learn to drive like a madwoman dodging other cars, as I can watch French Connection.

Through fantasy, I can live in a world where I can meet mad harpy women with an incredibly beautiful face and escape the chase by horrendous, barely articulate Gworls without even leaving my bedroom.

This way, I can give free roam to my pulsions and get released from the boredom. I vented my darkest desires, and I can go on with my pale, slightly boring life with no need to turn these fantasies into reality.
