x-1= 5x+3x-8
Combine like terms
x-1= 8x-8
Our goal is to isolate x by cancelling out other numbers.
Subtract x from both sides
x-1-x= 8x-x-8
-1= 7x-8
Add 8 to both sides
7=7x
Divide both sides by 7
1=x
Final answer: x=1
