How do bearing in Gr11 trig work? I was doing this question and I can't seem to get the right answer: The observation deck on a tower is 166m above the tower, a tourist notices two boats on water from above.
- the bearing of boat A is 180, at an angle of depression of 40
- the bearing of boat B is 250, at an angle of depression of 34
Calculate the distance between the two boats.
Please help, thank you!

You need to find the triangle between them on the water.
Boat A distance would be 166Tan(50)
Boat B distance would be 166Tan(56)
The angle between them would be 250-180 = 70 degrees
Then use the Law of Cosines to solve for the distance between them:
d^2 = A^2 + B^2 - 2AB(Cosine 70)
