automobiles and rail lines were both quite similar for the US because they both helped the US to grow more industrial. both also help in transporting things quicker around the country where as before all that could be used was steamboats or horses/animals/walking. they were different, however, because automobiles were more useful for transporting people while rail roads were and are still used more commonly for transporting raw materials and goods.
