1. Read the following paragraphs to prepare for placing them in the correct order.
Before one can even think about becoming an astronaut, the first step is to apply. Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, biological or physical science. They must also have three years of experience and/or an advanced degree. Those that meet these qualifications are individually screened. The Astronaut Selection Board then makes its recommendation of candidates.
All in all, astronauts have a very demanding job. They must not only prove themselves worthy of being accepted for training, but they must actually endure the extensive training program. Once in the job, their work becomes even more demanding as they conduct precious research to share with the world. Because of this, becoming an astronaut is a highly demanding but profoundly rewarding career.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel to space? An astronaut’s job seems like a very grand adventure. However, being an astronaut is not easy. Astronauts have a hard job because they must endure a difficult application process, go through extensive training, and conduct comprehensive studies and experiments.
After an applicant has been accepted into the Astronaut Candidate Program, he or she will undergo one to two years of training. Candidates attend classes on various subjects including shuttle systems, astronomy, oceanography, and many science and technology courses. Furthermore, the candidates need to learn some basic survival skills, especially survival swimming. Furthermore, they experience what it feels like to be weightless and learn how to maneuver in these conditions.
Finally, they undergo formal training in which they learn via simulation software that mimics an actual shuttle voyage. Finally, all the courses, simulations, and survival skills the candidates have learned will be put to the test. Another reason why an astronaut’s job is so difficult is because she is expected to not only maneuver through space, but she is expected to conduct research and experiments in space. Because of this, astronauts must be keenly observant, alert, and continually use common sense. In order for an astronaut’s research to be accurate, it is important to use proper procedures for collecting data. An astronaut’s work in the field requires a high degree of intelligence as well as physical stamina. • The primary elements of an essay include the introduction which informs the readers about the subject matter and scope of the essay.
  • This is followed by the body paragraphs that function to elaborate the topic and explain the author's stand on it along with the counterclaims and evidence to deny it.
  • Lastly, the concluding paragraph proves how the author's stand is valid and establishes the claim's reliability by restating the thesis statement and how it's proved to be true.
