Why were the Grand Banks of Newfoundland important to the French? It was a major source for fishing. The region supplied the majority of fur. It was a defensive barrier against the English.

Your answer is fish was important to the french because lots of people there were catholic,and Catholics dont eat meat on a certain day, but they can eat fish, so thats why it was a big demand in France.
