Thurgood Marshall helped establish the NAACP, a group that works to end racism and promote equality in America.
The NAACP stands for The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It is an American civil rights organization formed by white and black activists in 1909, aiming to advance justice for African Americans, who were highly discriminated still at the time.
Marshall, a civil-rights attorney, called by many "Mr. Civil Rights", served as a head of the organization from 1934 through 1965. During this time, he won many important civil right cases involving issues such as discriminatory housing practices, voting rights and racial segregation in public schools. He argued 32 cases before the Supreme Court and prevailed in 29 of them.
