The cost of the war was higher for the South rather that the North.

Explanation:

The costs of war for both sides  were similar in magnitude and although the  estimates are very complex and  questionable, the figures are illustrative.  The total loss for the Union was calculated in  2,188 billion of 1860 dollars and for  the Confederation 2,017 billion in the  same terms. Due to the difference in  population, this represented a per capita  expenditure of $ 96 for the Union and $ 380  for the Confederation. That is, the  "Sacrifice" assumed by the Confederates  reached four times that of the Union in  terms per capita.
