If the 22nd Amendment were in place, how would it have affected the presidency during World War II?

Respuesta :

Franklin D Roosevelt broke this tradition during his presidency and served four terms, as World War II and the Great Depression convinced him to run for a third and fourth term, since the country was in crisis.  After FDR died in 1945, many Americans began to recognize that having a president serve more than eight years was bad for the country.

The 22nd Amendment limits the number of terms a president can serve to two.

During World War II, Franklin D Roosevelt was the president. He won the election in 1932 and another succeeding election in 1936 as well.

Since the country was in crisis and had to be prepared to go to war, Roosevelt was already the leader, and the voters were not ready for a change in leadership at such a time.

Hence, Roosevelt won in 1940 and again in 1944 as well.

Since there were no written rules about presidential terms, Roosevelt became the longest-serving president of the US. The 22nd Amendment was sanctioned in 1951.
