The total crackers in the plate is 12 crackers

Let

x = total cracker

Manuel cracker = 1/3 of x

= 1/3x

His brother = 1/4 of x

= 1/4x

Cracker left = 5

Total = Manuel + his brother + leftover

x = 1/3x + 1/4x + 5

x = 4x+3x/12 + 5

x = 7/12x + 5

x - 7/12x = 5

12x - 7x/12 = 5

5/12x = 5

x = 5 ÷ 5/12

x = 5 × 12/5

x = 60/5

x = 12 crackers
