What are the solutions to the following system of equations? Select the correct answer below.

y = x2 − 2x + 4
8x + y = 20

a (2, 84) and (−8, 4)
b(−8, 2) and (84, 4)
c(2, 4) and (−8, 84)
d(4, −8) and (84, 2)

Respuesta :

Is it really x2 − 2x because that will not work.
first we take the first equation y=x2 - 2x +4 and substitute it for the value of y in the second equation...giving us, 8X + (x^2 - 2x +4) = 20
                                                   8x + x^2 - 2x +4 = 20
combine like terms                      x^2 + 6x + 4 = 20
subtract 20 fm both sides            x^2 + 6x - 16 = 0
factor                                          (x + 8) (x - 2) = 0
set both factors to = 0            x + 8 = 0          x - 2 = 0
solve                                x = -8 and 2
put these amounts into the regular equation to get the value of y
leaving the correct answer as C.
