Cesar Chavez was a leading activist in the 1970s who gained popularity due to labour rights movements. He led an array of movements like the Delano Grape Strike, Salinas Lettuce Strike etc.
The ideological worldview of Chavez is leftist combined with the social teachings of Catholicism. Chavez started out as a manual labourer before moving to the US Navy.
Then, he shifted to Community Service Organisation and helped the labourers to register their vote for the first time.
He is the co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), that was formed after the amalgamation of the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) and Agricultural Workers Organising Committee (AWOC) .
