During apoptosis, caspase proteases is responsible for initiating apoptosis in the cytosol of the target cell. Mitochondria play key roles in activating apoptosis in mammalian cells.

Bcl-2 family members which regulates the realse of protein from the space between the mitochondrial inner and outer membrane that activate caspase proteases once in cytosol that dismantle cells and signal efficient phagocytosis cell corposes.

Apoptosis is mediated by proteolutic enzymes which is called as capases that trigger the cell death by cleaving specific protein in the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is exist from all cells as inactive precursors which is commonly activated by caspases , producing a proteolytic caspase cascade.
