The differential association theory was developed by Edwin Sutherland to offer standards for quantifying criminal behavior. He created the differential association to aid in the identification of abnormal conduct.
One argues that most learnt behavior is a result of familial and social connections and that one learns criminal conduct via interactions with those close to them.
The emergence of aberrant conduct is also influenced by social media and fame. According to this theory, everybody who commits a crime does so because they believe it to be acceptable.
