The question that becomes primary as we try to assess the work of artists who support dictatorial regimes is Can we distinguish between an artists politics and the aesthetic qualities of their work?
With an emphasis on the analytical, artistic, and practical components, Theatre Appreciation is intended to help students develop a deeper appreciation for and understanding of the theatrical arts. Theatre encourages us to speak truth to power, to take chances, and to support fresh, different viewpoints. We are not alone, the theatre serves to remind us. We not only share a space and an experience with the artists, but we also share an experience with the other audience members.
The cultural phenomena of theatre calls for a self-reflection by society. We can research societal issues and try to come up with solutions. It's important for the community to come together and listen to different viewpoints.
