When nondisjunction occurs, the homologous or sister chromatids are drawn to one pole of the cell because the separation does not take place. Topoisomerase II, condensin, or separase inactivation can result in mitotic nondisjunction.

When is there a nondisjunction?

Nondisjunction errors can happen in either mitosis or meiosis II when sister chromatids fail to separate or in meiosis I when homologous chromosomes fail to separate.
