The formation of glaciers during the ice age allow for migration to north America in the following  manner.

The expansion of the ice pack over the poles led to a ice bridge (glaciers) being formed that linked the eastern tip of Siberia with the western tip of North America (modern day Alaska/Canada). This is theorized to have facilitated the movement of life forms from Europe to North America.

Why did people move from place to place during ice age?

  • The first people who came to North America may have taken advantage of the warming at the end of the Ice Age. While the sea level was still low, much ground was exposed between Russia and Alaska, which allowed people to walk across a “land bridge” between the two continents.
  • Glaciers indirectly affected the majority of the South Central in a variety of ways. Melting water from the north was filled with sediment that accelerated erosion, carving most of the region's modern river valleys into the landscape.
