American author and activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a pioneer of the mid- to late-19th century women's rights movement in the country. Stanton was the daughter of Margaret Livingston and Daniel Cady, two of Johnstown, New York's most well-known residents, and she was born there on November 12, 1815. She attended the Johnstown Academy and Emma Willard's Troy Female Seminary in New York for her academic education. Elizabeth Cady Stanton worked nonstop to advance women's rights. Although she did not survive to see her objective realized, she and Susan B. Anthony co-led the American women's suffrage movement for 50 years. Elizabeth Cady Stanton devoted her entire life to the suffrage and women's rights causes. She so spent a significant chunk of her life giving speeches.
