Inversion
When a portion of a chromosome is reversed end-to-end, it is known as an inversion. When a single chromosome splits apart and rearranges inside of itself, an inversion happens. Both paracentric and pericentric inversions fall under this category.
Translocation
Chromosome translocation is a phenomenon that causes chromosomes to rearrange themselves in a unique way. This includes reciprocal- and Robertsonian translocation, which are the two basic forms of balanced and unbalanced translocation. Chromosome abnormality known as reciprocal translocation is brought on by the exchange of pieces between non-homologous chromosomes. Switching occurs between two separated pieces of two distinct chromosomes.
