Clindamycin
A number of bacterial illnesses are treated with clindamycin, an antibiotic drug, including osteomyelitis (infections of the bones or joints), pelvic inflammatory disease, strep throat, pneumonia, acute otitis media (middle ear infections), and endocarditis. Additionally, some cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and acne may be treated with it (MRSA). It works best when used with quinine to treat malaria. It can be taken orally, administered intravenously, or given topically or vaginally as a cream or gel. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes, and pain at the injection site are typical adverse effects. It is only advised when other antibiotics are inappropriate because it nearly quadruples the risk of acquiring Clostridium difficile colitis in hospitals.
