Who was Ben Zuckerman?
Benjamin Michael Zuckerman, an astronomer and emeritus professor in UCLA's Department of Physics & Astronomy, was born on August 16, 1943. His most recent research primarily focuses on the birth and development of planetary systems around diverse star types. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Zuckerman earned two degrees in 1963—one in physics and the other in aeronautics and astronautics. He completed his astronomy PhD dissertation at Harvard University in 1968. Since 1965, Zuckerman has authored the first author on over 100 of the well over 200 refereed publications he has published in journals including Astrophysical Journal, Nature, Astronomy & Astrophysics, and Science. Additionally, he wrote several reviews for the Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics. He was a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2001.
