A self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), also known as a compressed air breathing apparatus (CABA) or simply a breathing apparatus (BA), is a device that is worn to supply breathable air in an environment that is immediately harmful to life or health. They are commonly seen in firefighting and industrial. The name "self-contained" refers to the SCBA's lack of reliance on a remote supply of breathing gas (e.g., through a long hose). It is also known as a Scuba set if it is intended for usage under water (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus). They are sometimes referred to as industrial breathing sets when they are not utilized underwater. Unofficial names for air packs, air tanks, oxygen cylinders, and simply packs are commonly used in firefighting.
