In the story The Feather Pillow when the author says" Alicia passed the autumn in this strange love nest" was the foreshadowing point, which indicates one that something is wrong maybe there are parasites.
There is a gothic theme behind the story which is the house with secret evil, which tells that the house was haunted for Alicia as she was bounded to her life with Jordan and wasn't having any of her former dreams left with her as she veiled them forever.
It is so because Alicia left/veiled every former dream/desire of her and got bounded by her new life with Jordan. She use to hallucinate and her most tenacious hallucination was of an anthropoid poised on his fingertips on the carpet, staring at her.
