Matthew is younger than kadeem. their ages are consecutive even integers. find matthew's age if the sum of matthew's age and 2 times kadeem's age is 28.

Create a system of equations

k = m + 2
2k + m = 28

Substitute

2(m + 2) + m = 28
2m + 4 + m = 28
3m + 4 = 28
3m = 24
m = 8

Matthew is 8, Kadeem is 10
