you'll need an iron nail, copper wire, a D-cell battery, paper clips or pins, and masking tape.

wrap the copper wire around the nail downward. then wrap one end of the exposed wire around the positive side of the battery and the other end around the negative side of the battery and use the tape to hold them together. place the nail near the paper clip/pin. you can experiment with different sizes too, but this should work (:
