The non-violent protests were appealing because they were considered safe, and anyone could participate. Such tactics included speeches, which used rhetoric to question the practice of segregation. Rhetoric appealed to the viewers emotions more than logic, showing or I guess telling them how bad discrimination is and what effect it can have on adults, and young children. Mohandas Gandhi is also famous for using non-violent protests to attain civil rights, for example boycotts. More and more elected officials felt the pressure to put forward policies because the majority wanted and supported the movement by the help of speeches and peaceful protests.
