The war ended on December 24th in 1814 with the Treaty of Ghent. One part of the battle of New Orleans happened in January which is after the treaty was signed. It was a meaningless victory because the war was already over and the battle wouldn't have affected the war in any way. They fought the battle because they didn't know that the treaty had been signed.
