Explain how to rewrite 4/5 and 9/10 with a common denominator. Are the fractions equivalent? Why or why not?

Respuesta :

As we can see 10 is 2 times of 5.
So, we need to multiply small number of 2 as follows:

4/5 * 2/2 = 8/10

With common denominators, they are: 8/10 & 9/10

Also, they are not equivalent, 'cause 8 is not equal to 9.

Hope this helps!

10 is a multiple of 5, 10=5*2
So let's rewrite them to have a common denominator.
[tex] \frac{4}{5} = \frac{4(2)}{5(2)} = \frac{8}{10} [/tex]

As you can see [tex] \frac{8}{10} \neq \frac{9}{10} [/tex]
They are not equivalent.
Because it is smaller!
[tex] \frac{8}{10} \ \textless \ \frac{9}{10} [/tex]
