The Ottoman empire:
- rose to prominence in the 1300s
- originated from Persia
- took over various lands owned by the Byzantine empire
- took over several lands formerly under the Persian empire
As the Ottoman empire spread across Southeast Europe and the Middle East, they took over lands that had previously been ruled by the Persian empire.
These lands still had governing structures from when they were under the Persians and so laid the foundations for Ottoman government.
