Nancy watches her dad fix a broken chair with a nail and a hammer, but she finds the hammering sound too loud. So, she decides to go back to her room, which is next door. On entering her room, she finds the hammering does not sound as loud. Why does the sound become faint?

Answer:

The sound of hammering becomes fainter as Nancy goes into her room because some of the sound waves are absorbed by the walls. Only part of the sound waves coming from the other room comes into her room, so the hammering sounds quieter.
