When placed end-to-end, three red rods are 2 cm longer than two blue rods. Three blue rods are 2 cm longer than four red rods. How long is each rod?

x = red and y = blue

3x = 2y + 2...rearrange 3x - 2y = 2
3y = 4x + 2...rearrange -4x +3y = 2

3x - 2y = 2.....multiply by 4
-4x + 3y = 2...multiply by 3
---------------
12x - 8y = 8
-12x + 9y = 6
--------------add
y = 14 ...so the blue rods are 14 cm

3x - 2y = 2
3x - 2(14) = 2
3x - 28 = 2
3x = 28 + 2
3x = 30
x = 30/3
x = 10 ....and the red rods are 10 cm
