After the United States declared war with England for a second time in a generation, American forces launched a massive shipbuilding campaign to oppose British vessels on the high seas.
England has always been very strong when it came to sea battles, which is why America had to be on par in order to defeat it.

I believe the answer is: invaded Canada but repulsed

The invasion was made in order to obtain resources and territory that would help united states in their battle against England. But at that time, the millitary support from the French for the Canada was still strong, which make Canada able to repulse American military.
