They wanted more money and since America was a British colony, they could do that. So, greed caused them to do this. They raised taxes on tea and this lead to the Boston Tea Party were the Americans threw all the tea into the sea as a protest against the raised taxes.
Britain also needed money to pay for its war debts. The King and Parliament believed they had the right to tax the colonies. They decided to require several kinds of taxes from the colonist to help pay for the French and Indian War.
