What inference can the reader make about The Odyssey from the following statement? "Even if Odysseus of Ithaca did arrive in person, to find us well-bred suitors feasting in his halls... . Here on the spot he'd meet a humiliating end if he fought against such odds."

A lot of things. I've read The Odyssey many times before, and I enjoy it. However, if I was a new reader, I could infer that once Odysseus was out, a huge party of arrogant suitors came in, unafraid of Odysseus's wrath since they have an "upper hand" in numbers.
