wallace and vernonville are 192 miles apart. A car leaves wallace traveling towards vernonville, and another car leaves vernonville at the same time, traveling towards wallace. The car leaving wallace averages 10 mph more than the other, and they meet after 1 hour and 36 minutes. What are the average speeds of the cars?

Speed of car leaving wallace be x mph 

Speed of car leaving vernonville will be ( x+10) mph 

1.6 ( x + x+10) = 192

2x + 10 = 120

2x = 110

x = 55

ANSWER Wallace car = 55 mph Vernonville = 65mph 

Therefore, the average speeds of both cars are 55 mph for the Wallace car and 65 mph for the Vernonville.
