I believe there would be 16 cans

do 20 divide 5/4 (=1 1/4)

so 20 * 4/5 which would be 80/5; simplifies to 16 cans
First I would convert the fraction to a mixed number, 7 9/13, 6 1/3, etc.  11/4 rewritten as a mixed number is 2 3/4 because 4 goes into 11 twice (if you need more help with mixed numbers get help from your teacher or look online)! Now we need to find out how many times 2 3/4 lbs. (1 soup can) goes into 20 pounds. I would convert the original fraction 11/4 into a decimal by dividing 11 by 4. Then it would be 20 lbs (carton) divided by 2.75 lbs. (can).
See if you can get the final answer using the equation:[tex]20/2.75 = x[/tex]
